Mutations allow new versions of DNA combinations to occur. These can be harmful, benign or beneficial. If they are harmful, they tend to be self eliminating, unless they only show up after breeding age. If they are benign, they may not influence the species. If they are beneficial, they create improved varieties of the organisms, resulting in greater diversity and therfore greater adaptability in the species.

A mutation is a change in the genetic code of one allele of your genetic code. ( rarely does mutation affect both alleles ) Most mutations are neutral, some are deleterious, but sometimes a mutation in the germ line can convey some slight advantage to progeny. An example of this is lactose tolerance in some peoples of the world.

Are mutations in the DNA sequence gene transient changes?

Successful mutations will persist. Mutations usually occur during replication. Some mutations will flourish depending on environmental factors.

What makes mutations happen?

A mutation in humans is caused by a misconnection of DNA chromosomes and cells. Not all mutations are genetics some are just a fluke with the DNA match up.

How does polymerase prevent mutations?

It checks DNA for errors during replication.

Sometimes mutations in DNA can cause control of the cell cycle to fail. What might happen if such a mutation occurred in a person's DNA?

The failure of DNA replication during the cell cycle can cause mutations. If such mutations occurred in a person's DNA, the person can end up getting cancer.

What is a source of genetic variation that refers to a random error in the genetic code?
