What are the advantages of socialization?

• People who are not capable of sustaining themselves individually are helped by the government. This could include the young, the old, those in poor physical or mental health.
• When basic needs are more easily attained, people are more able to focus on education or other activities that contribute to being more productive and rising in the social ladder.
• When basic needs are more easily attained, there is additional opportunity for citizens to explore non-economically-productive pursuits or pursuits that do not have immediate economic benefit, such as science, math and the arts.
• A stable social environment is created. Infrastructure is better funded: Roads, Utilities (water, electricity, etc.), schools, fire fighters, police, hospitals.
• Socialism implemented at a government level tends to give government greater control of functions of society. Certain functions are 'better' run by a central government than by a private sector, as the private sector is more prone to greed or corruption.

In Theory:

The rich have less ability to exploit the poor.

People get a fair chance in life.

A "fairer" distribution of wealth.

Socialism simply argues that certain activities are done better by a central authority, and in actuality are done poorly by a private market. If you believe the private market handles all things best then you disagree with this assumption.
