See the related link for a map of country codes in Africa with a list of many of the city codes (area codes) and mobile codes.

Country codes in Africa begin with +2. With the exception of +20 (Egypt) and +27 (South Africa), all African country codes have three digits.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

The international telephone code for South Africa is +27. Note that you must drop the trunk prefix 0 from the beginning of the South African number when calling internationally. For example, Pietermaritzburg's area code 033 becomes +27 33.

A typical South African number has the international country code +27, followed by a two-digit area code and then a seven-digit individual number.

Within South Africa, dial 0 then an area code and the individual number.

Johannesburg is area codes +27 10 and +27 11

Pretoria is area code +27 12

Cape Town is area code +27 21

Durban is area code +27 31

Port Elizabeth is area code +27 41

All landline area codes are in the range +27 10 through +27 58

Mobiles are in area codes +27 72, 73, 74, 76, 78, 79, 82, 83, and 84

VoIP numbers are in area code +27 87

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
