In dealing with afterlife/eternal life Christian doctrine has to take into account three distinct periods (1) from the fall of Adam to the coming of Christ (2) the Kingdom of God the Son from the coming of Christ to the Last Day (3) the Kingdom of God the Father after the Last Day. You will need to know this to understand the following passages of Scripture.

The Resurrection, dealing with period (1) above: "Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection; . But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead, but of the living" (Matthew Ch 22).Note: Angels often appeared in human form. They even ate food which Abraham prepared for them. "Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world."' (John Ch 11) Note that Jesus did not agree with Martha when she linked the resurrection to the Last Day.

Timing of the resurrection: "Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will livefor the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgement." (John Ch 5) "And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split; the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many." (Matthew Ch 27)

The Last Day, dealing with periods (2) and (3) above: "All that the Father gives me will come to me; and him who comes to me I will not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me; and this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day." (John Ch 6) "The kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous, and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear" (Matthew Ch 13). Christians don't call it afterlife, but rather eternity. There is Hell, where the unsaved spend eternity and there is Heaven, where the saved spend eternity. From the perspective of many Christians, what The Bible implies is that there is an afterlife that everyone experiences and that if you believe in Jesus then you can be allowed entry into heaven- because he suffered and died to pay for the sins that everyone accumulates in this world, and he is the only one with the power to take those sins away from you (because he is the sinless sole son of God). If you do not trust in Jesus to take your sins away from you, many Christians believe the weight of your sins will force you to spend an eternity in Hell. Ouch.

Heaven Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3

Hell Jesus describes hell as "the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." Mark 9:43-48. After the White Throne Judgment it states in Revelation 20:11, whoever is "not found written in the book of life was cast into the Lake of Fire."v. 15. This is seen as the final stage of Hell that is reached for failure to trust Christ as the one who paid for man's sins. It is called the "second death." v. 14.

Hope

Many Christians, who take the Scripture literally, believe that God doesn't wish any to perish in Hell (2 Peter 3:9), which they see as the reason that God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay for their sins on the Cross.

According to John 3:14-18, Jesus told Nicodemus, "a ruler of the Jews," that God didn't send "His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved." v.17. But those who refuse to believe, Christ said that they are "condemned already." v.18. The passage indicates that the only hope is to believe in Christ, who gives eternal life. v.16. This is called the "Blessed Hope" (Titus 2:13).

Three Eons (ages)

The failure common with discussing the afterlife is the ignorance of understanding the 3 earth eons (ages) as defined in 2nd Peter chapter 3, which also happen to specifically align with historical events (except the 3rd eon which has not yet occurred). Souls exist in either of two bodies (1st Corinthians 15), as Paul explains. All souls existed int the 1st earth age where 1/3 were deceived by the cherub Satan (Revelation 12:3-4) when the great casting down occurred (Katabolle).

The 1st earth age was flooded and destroyed (1st Peter ch3 and Jeremiah 4 starting with vs 19). The word translated waters in Genesis 1:2 is the Hebrew word for waste water (mayim). The word perished used in 2nd Peter 3:6 means completed destruction and is event attached to one of Satan's names (Apollyon) as its defined in Revelation 9. Jeremiah 4 is specific and matches the events which have historically occurred (no Birds, no Man, no Sun). Without sun, the earth would have frozen after the flood (ice age).

This second earth age was created for souls to prove their worth via their good or bad works upon which they will be judged (Revelation 20). Existence of your soul in a flesh body is temporary (1 Corinthians 15), where the soul must earn the right to move to the 3rd earth age (inside their heavenly bodies) via passing Judgment (Revelation 20, 21, 2nd Peter ch3).

Finally all souls which make it through judgment will exist in the 3rd earth age, also referred to as the eternity (Revelation 21), in their spiritual body (1 Corinthians 15). Those souls who don't pass judgment, are destroyed in the lake of fire (Revelation 20 with specifics in given in Revelation 21).

So there is an afterlife, but there is a huge "IF" associated with that claim, which relies upon each soul passing judgment of their works (Revelation 20).

The "afterlife" consists of many things. 1) There is the judgment seat of Christ for all believers. 2) There is the marriage supper of the Lamb. 3) There is ruling on earth with Christ during the 1,000 year reign. 4) Then there is eternity. The Lord has seen fit to leave a great deal of information about the afterlife untold in His word.

Most Christians believe in some form of divine judgement after death. Beliefs differ between whether this judgement takes place immediately after death, on a future date until which time the departed soul 'sleeps', or on a future date at which time the dead person is brought back to life once more to be judged. The result of the judgement is also subject to different interpretations. Those found worthy receive some form of eternal reward such as living in a heavenly realm or an earthly paradise. Those judged to be unworthy receive punishment, again subject to debate, including but not limited to: endless suffering in Hell, temporary suffering before being allowed into paradise, or immediate annihilation through destruction of the soul.

after we die we will either be accepted into heaven by st. Peter or we will be damned to hell with satan and live an eternal life happily or sadly

Biblical Answer:

The Bible is quite clear that when we die, our spirit returns to God for 'safekeeping' and our bodies return to the ground/dust (see Ecclesiastes 12:7 and Psalm 146:4). We are plainly told of a future Judgment Process where all will stand before Jesus Christ. The final resurrection will hold the incorrigible and those who refuse to repent. All of these will be thrown into the Lake of Fire and face the 2nd death - final for eternity.

No one goes to heaven immediately except Jesus (see John 3:13). No eternal punishment for physical mankind, only the demons and Satan who are spirit. A new heaven will come to the new Earth and billions of humans will become God's spiritual sons and daughters (see Revelation 20 for devil and demons; Revelation 21 for new heaven on new Earth and 2 Corinthians 6:18 for sons and daughters).
