The benefits are that it turns so washing blows around in the wind, making it dry quicker and also that it saves power by not using a drying machine. It's cheap but you need to have some space.
They lasted too long. It was years before the hills hoist people worked out that there was more money to be made by bringing out an inferior quality item that would require replacement more often ....
