What are the benefits of critical thinking?

Answer:

Critical thinking means just what it sounds like - stepping back from the emotions and thinking about somethiing objectively and critically. It means thinking like a scientist instead of a layman, thinking about many solutions instead of narrowing in on one idea, and examining evidence instead of jumping to conclusions. Here are some benefits of thinking critically"

  • you can make a rational decision instead of an emotional one - rational decisions are more likely to be good ones, while emotional ones usually turn out badly
  • you can find a solution that is more likely to work, because you have looked at all the evidence and data
  • you can think in "shades of gray" instead of "black and white" - this lets you see many sides of something instead of being close-minded
  • you are more likely to be able to tell if something is the right thing to do, because you can look at things objectively
  • you are more likely to come up with correct answers and solutions because you examine all the evidence before you decide anything
