Mostly, no. Most nutritionists recommend 1.5 to 2 litres of water a day. A gallon (about 4.52 litres) is more than your body needs for normal daily reactions. If you are losing a lot of water through sweat then you should drink more water, but whenever you drink lots of water, if you do not consume corresponding amounts of salt, you may damage your body. The reason for this is that your cells are partially permeable membranes, which means that some things can pass in and out of them, but not others. Whenever a partially permeable membrane is in a solution (as your cells are, the solution most of them are in being your blood) then if the salt concentration of your blood is higher than that of your cells, water will pass from your cells into your blood. If you heavily dilute your blood with excess water, water will pass from your blood into your cells until your cells burst. This is not good. If lots of cells, or important cells, burst, you will die. If you are looking to improve your health, a gallon of water every day is not the way to go.
