Well, having used many different kinds over the last 4.5 decades (yes, we had to iron as children, part of any smart mouth will get you a basket). Branding is not a big deal. It is the face place and how smooth it is, abililty to clean WHOOPS off it, making sure it is a steam iron, one that also shuts it self off when left unattended/unused for 10 minutes.

I have several Black and Decker which are folding travel irons. Love them. And I have some older ones yet which are the plastic/hard poly with NO metal, and they are the best for drapes on the wall, dresses on gals at weddings, etc. Many used many ways.

To choose one brand is rather snobby when details of each are what should be looked at.

Does the Rowenta iron use Distilled Water for steam?

No! In fact, most modern steam irons recommend NOT using distilled water. Because of the lack of impurities in distilled water, it does not vaporize on contact with the soleplate in the same was simple tap water (or, if your water is hard, a mixture of tap and spring water) will. The use of distilled water will cause your iron to spit and leak. If in doubt, READ the INSTRUCTIONS. Rowenta irons are clear on this point, as are other major mainstream brands, such as Hamilton Beach.
