I'd agree in general, but it can depend on a variety of factors, including season, lighting, etc. As far as jigs are concerned, for darker or murkier the water, you'll want a bright colored jig or ones that glow in the dark.

For yellow perch I find that dead smelts hooked in the belly and dragged through the water in short easy burst works fine. If you can't get smelts any real baitfish will do. I hear alewifes work. If baitfish or live bait is illegal in your body of water silver colored lures will work. Other successfull baits are worms (especially nightcrawlers) grublike lures, and brokeback float sink lures.

and I agree, except to stress one point a bit more. While small, shiny minnows work splendidly for perch, they are, in my 50 years as a fisherman, usually an unnecessary expense. If the perch are biting, bits of nightcrawler work as well as anything, and that's much more economical than

the so-called "perch minnows". If they're not biting, the minnows - as opposed to worm or nightcrawler - aren't really going to help very much.
