It depends on how you like your shots and which way you prefer to develop them. Always go with an SLR. The name brand is your choice. Remember it is not the camera that makes it, it's the photographer, and your own perception on which you would like to capture your image. Whether you prefer a digital SLR or non-digital is your choice.

Ps., Check out The Art Institute of Santa Ana. It has a great program for digital Photography!

  • I recommend CANON A650 or CANON SX100, both of them are great .
  • I recommend canon a650.
  • I recommend CANON SX100
  • It depends how much money do you have? For example for around 200 $ i recommend canon a560 or canon a720, for more than 200 Nikon l14, canon a650. In my opinion CANON SX100 is great digital camera as it has 8MP, 10x ZOOM and the price is very good - 230$
  • One to consider is a Nikon D40. It was created in 2006 and seems to be favored over the higher priced D80 in some reviews.
  • Do lots of research on this before you buy. Spend at least 6 months reading reviews, and then make a decision. Also check around for prices ... and for the equipment that comes with it ... some online sites strip most of the standard equipment (like camera straps, owners manuals, USB cables, software, etc) away to give the best price, while other online sources include all that at the same price. Makes one wonder.
  • There are many sites where you can buy DIGITAL cameras :)
  • I think Canon PowerShot SD1300IS is best because its easy to use, and has all the features of a better camera for less the pirce, its only like 141$

It depends on what you want to do with a camera.

For a convenient, small camera to carry with you, there are many compact cameras that will slip in a pocket or purse.

If you want to work on more serious photography, consider a digital SLR. They have interchangeable lenses that are more effective than the lenses on compact cameras. have a huge range of accessories to tailor the camera to different applications and are generally more robust than most compacts. They are also much heavier and much larger and of course are more expensive.

Whichever route you choose, aim for the best you can afford. Look at the big names in photography - Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax are all fine manufacturers but there are many more to choose from.

The lcd is fantastic, allows to take pictures or movie shoots in practical any position and situation, nice also when you are taking videos or do not want to be noticed when you are shooting, getting more spontaneous photos.

I have a Nikon Coolpix. I find that it works great and is easy to use. It is not overly expensive, starting in the lower $100s. It takes good pictures, as well.
