I like to eat Oranges, or bannanas they help prevent cramps :-) other good things to eat are things high in carbs but be carfull to not over eat. it also helps to stay hydrated (it makes your blood thiner and helps transport oxygen faster)
i prefer to eat a bagel about an hour to two before swimming to have some dryer dense food in my stomach

No your stomach will not explode if you eat right before swiming, however your stomach will cramp and more then likely you won't be able to swim. Wouldn't recomend it, my parents always told us kids not to eat right before swimming.
