Making sure you always turn the lights off in a room if you do not need them, or even if you are just leaving for a minute or two.
Even something as simple as making sure your thermostat reads 20 degrees C instead of 22. In the short run, it's not much, but in the long run, it does save energy.
Rather than keeping your television turned off, unplug it; it still uses power when it is switched off (that little light that indicates that it is off). Likewise with DVD players and computers.
Don't keep the fridge or freezer open for too long. Maybe open it. Scan it, then close it and try and think if there was anything that stood out to you.
