The biggest problem with the education system is we are getting our children through education by anaesthetising them rather than waking them upto what's inside of themselves. And with the rising cost of education and the high drop-out rates, the problem is imparting quality education and not just a degree. Bias and self-selection is also another big problem evident in some departments in universities. The deeper danger with departments is that they can become self-selective and biased. Typically, when departments hire new faculty, it is at their own initiative. And students face conflicts and more insidious dysfunctionalities. Learning should be fun and will be fun if you're with people who don't take themselves too seriously and have a certain flexibility of mind that allows them to engage and enjoy scholars with viewpoints different from their own.
