Use caution on those medals. The Bronze Star could also be awarded for Meritorious Achievement. If the Bronze Star has a "V" device attached to the ribbon portion, then the award is for VALOR (Bravery). See website: Statistics About the Vietnam War

in total there were 69 American men awarded this prestigious medal including decorated war hero Sgt. There are two different bronze stars often listed on discharge papers from the Vietnam era. The Bronze Star Medal was awarded for meritorious service or valor. Subsequent awards were marked with an oak leaf cluster.
Bronze stars were also small stars placed on the Vietnam Campaign ribbon to signify major campaign participation while serving "in country." Most military participated in three or four major campaigns during their tour in Vietnam, and thus added three or four small bronze stars to their yellow with red stripes Vietnam Service Ribbon.

About 386 Silver Stars have been awarded to our men and women in uniform since the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 (9/11).
There is only one star on the Vietnam flag.
The Silver Star Medal was awarded only for heroism in combat. In the medal hierarchy it ranks after the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross (or Navy Cross) which are also only given for heroism in combat and before the Bronze Star Medal (either a heroism or meritorius service medal). This is a high honor for any serviceman. Occasionally people will ask this question because they have a campaign ribbon or other decoration with small 1/4 inch stars attached that are either bronze or silver in color. These stars indicate the number of times the decoration was awarded or the number of campaign's the recipient participated in. A bronze star equals 1 and a silver star equals five bronze stars
The first Silver Star for gallantry awarded to a miliary women happened during WWII when four nurses were the recipients; 1st Lt. Mary Roberts, 2d Lt. Elaine Roe, 2d Lt. Virginia Rourke, and 2d Lt. Ellen Ainsworth Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester is the first woman soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star
No list exists. The Bronze Star medal was created in 1944, so it has existed for over 65 years. A time when the US was involved in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq/Afghanistan, to name but a few. Because the medal is awarded for combat and non-combat actions, tens of thousands have been awarded.
