What are the categories of festivities and celebration in england?

Answer

In medieval times, a festivity was given by the monarchy prior to Lent. Ceremonies were held for new knights; drafting them into service for the King. The landed gentry rode through the countryside giving out cake, coins, and other trinkets to the peasants.
A carnival season was celebrated in England until the Nineteenth century. It incorporated fertility rites and ball games which usually ended in riots; due to the mixture of pancake feasts and alcohol.
Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday is still a tradition in the United Kingdom. Pancake races and pancake tossing are still popular.
