Allergies

irritants (dust, make up, allergens, smoke, etc.)

conjunctivitis (pink eye)

eye strain from prolonged reading, computer use

fatigue

dry eyes

crying Lack of sleep and headaches can also cause eyes to feel sore. Quite often a warm or cool compress (wet cloth) placed over the eyes for a few minutes can help alleviate the soreness.

have had same thing before. eye tends to feel like a bruise on the eyelid towards the outside. Always seems to be the same eye. Tends to feel a little sticky, but not a pinkeye by far. Noticed eyeball seems to be where the semi pain lies. It also has a raised appearance that I can only feel after touching. Never noticed that is where this came from before. Like I said it feels bruised on the outside, but I don't think that is source anymore. I am sure this must just be an infection. Tell me you know what it is and how I can fix it with an easy remedy.

There could be several contributing factors to eye pain:

  • Your eyes may hurt because you need to sleep
  • Your eyes may not have adjusted to what you are doing
  • It could be an allergic reaction
  • It could be from staring at a computer for too long - try giving them a rest

Pink eye can be painful and usually makes ones eye pink, runny and crusty. Eyelashes falling in your eye will cause pain, too. Poking one's eye (or being poked) is also rather painful.

The act of touching your eyeball (as opposed to just the eyelid) is what's wrong. Stop doing it, i.e. don't poke yourself in the eye anymore, and eventually it will stop hurting.
