surely detergent will kill the plants.. the reason being is detergents have the foaming agent such as sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) or sodium lauryl sulphate which can cleave the protein molecules present in the cells converting them into peptides by breaking the chemical bondings.. how can a plant survive without protein?

Well it really depends what plant and detergent in reference. Some detergents can actually be used to fight and kill off pest of plants and some can not. A prime example of a particular type of detergent that can be made and diluted with water is dish soap of any kind to spray the leaves, stems and soil to kill of many different types of pest. If you google what type of issues you may be having with that particular plant you will be able to find a more direct answer based around the plants know info and other experience with growing and caring for it.

The way to apply Tide detergent to kill grubs is easy. Fill a 5 gallon bucket with lukewarm water and mix in 1 teaspoon of Tide detergent. Mix the solution well and add to a sprayer for the yard. Spray the yard where the grubs are to kill them.
