Username, Domain and Suffix. Username@domain.suffix.

The username is to differentiate between users. The domain is the computers address with full stops (.) separating the parts. The suffix is to describe the type of organisation that is hosting the email address. E.g. John_Smith@hotmail.com

There is the unique name, the part before the @ sign. There is the @ sign, probably the most important item, as it is what identifies the string as an email address. The last two parts are specifically identifying the domain and domain type.
