During the first two trimesters, ibuprofen probably doesn't cause any harm to the fetus, although there haven't been any really good human studies`(as with many medications during pregnancy). A few have shown a possible link to miscarriages or difficulty with implantation very early on, but other similar studies have shown this not to be the case. In the third trimester, it is not recommended since a medication similar to it causes closure of one of the blood vessels in the fetus (the ductus arteriosis), which can lead to major problems. Because of this, most physicians tend to recommend taking acetaminophen for pain and avoiding ibuprofen completely unless absolutely necessary. Hope this helps! Dr. B.

Ibuprofen thins your blood. From what I understand it can cause sever bleeding when it is time to deliver. You can talk to your doctor and sometimes even the pharmacist about the risks. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure why it is so unsafe. However, on my first visit to the doctor, I was informed not to take anything with Ibprofen in it. Tylenol is just fine though.

Depends on the trimester. It does the most harm during the last trimester, and it is not preferred during pregnancy. At birth it promotes the closure of the ductus arteriosus, which you dont want to have happen prior to birth.

Ibuprofen in the first trimester can cause a miscarriage, continuing to do so can cause fetal heart problems and maternal blood loss damaging the baby and the mother as well.
