What are the dates of the Glendoveer Airport in Portland Oregon?

If you mean an airport on the site of the current Glendoveer Golf course, my recollection is that it never panned out. The introduction of DC3 & other new planes, along with collisions with the west hills, mandated a replacement for the Swan Island airport that had served Portland through the mid 30s. Around 1935 the candidates for replacement sites were three - 1 Hillsboro area, maybe near/at the present Hillsboro airport site, but I'm not sure; 2 The present "river bottom" site for PDX; and 3 The Glendoveer Golf course site. I believe the CAB (FAA predecessor) preferred Glendoveer (referred to as the "Plateau") because it was free of fog, at least compared to the River bottom site, and Glendoveer owner Frank Stenzel would have been happy to sell, having had a hard time keeping the golf course above water financially in the depression. I don't recall the disadvantages of the Hillsboro site, apart from distance from city center. I believe the cost of acquiring existing improvements around Glendoveer, and relocation of extensive power lines on Halsey & Glisan, caused the selection of the present River Bottom site, which was mostly unimproved farmland. Most of this can be followed in the local papers for 1935-36.

I have heard there was once an airport at 148th & SE Stark, where the "Happy Landing" tavern still stands, but I've not yet had occasion to drop in & see if they have old photos on the walls. Happy hunting!
