Art "movements" are convenient, simplifying and distorted labels that attempt an historical account of art work. Modernism is generally agreed to have begun at the beginning of the 20th century with the advent of Fauvism (e.g. Matisse), Expressionism (e.g. Munch) and Cubism (e.g. Picasso). Late modernism would include Minimalism (e.g. Judd, Andre) and Conceptualism (e.g. Nauman, On Kawara). Both these movenments, Minimalism and Conceptualism have their roots early in the 20th century with Malevich and Duchamp (hence, the distorted labels). Post-Modernism follows on the heels of Late Modernism, around the mid 1970's, and, some say, hails the end of Modernism. PM is defined as the art of identity and challenges the autonomy of art. Nothing we can say or do is truly "original". Reality and Representation overlap. PM emphasizes the way images and symbols shift or lose their meaning. PM also claims to be the stage where all our basic needs - food, clothing, shelter, protection from violence, education - are met. Of course, this isn't happening around the world and, thus, many say only Euro-North American culture is Post-Modernist. Check out Julian Schnabel, David Salle, Judy Chicago.
Modern art refers to artistic works produced during the period extending roughly from the 1860s to the 1970s, and denotes the style and philosophy of the art produced during that era.[1] The term is usually associated with art in which the traditions of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency toward abstraction is characteristic of much modern art. More recent artistic production is often called Contemporary art or Postmodern art.
Postmodern art is a term used to describe an art movement which was thought to be in contradiction to some aspect of modernism, or to have emerged or developed in its aftermath. In general, movements such as Intermedia, Installation art, Conceptual Art and Multimedia, particularly involving video are described as postmodern. The traits associated with the use of the term postmodern in art include bricolage, use of words prominently as the central artistic element, collage, simplification, appropriation, depiction of consumer or popular culture and Performance art.

Traditional Art- known as classical art, and it follows the preset definition of patterns and and traditional customs of art. Art that is part of culture, skills and knowledge of group of people, it is never modified and remained in its original form. A focus on preserving classic art forms. Modern Art- considered non-traditonal art, it was created by merging the basic elements of traditional art, and the new form, modern. Modern art is vast and keeps changing with new innovations and ideas. so basically traditional art is about preserving classic ideas, and modern is about new and innovative ideas
