Open adoption is when the biological mother/father, and their child are still allowed to meet and see eachother, even after the adoption process is complete. Closed adoption is when the biological mother/father of the baby can see their child for a year after the adoption. They can send pictures, letters, etc. After the one year, they have no contact with them, until the child is 18.

A partial open adoption is when the mother or father (the one who is giving the child up for adoption Sometimes both) are allowed to see the child only when the adopted parents have told the child that he/she was adopted and that their parent(s) may be able to see them.
Sometimes the bio parents in partial open adoption are allowed to see the child but have to be called something other than mom and dad maybe aunt/uncle or sister/brother.

There is no comparison. Partial custody refers to the custody and visitation rights of parents involved in a separation or divorce action.

Open adoption refers to the adoption process.

The two processes are not, in any way, synonymous.

In a closed adoption there is no contact between the biological parents and the child. They are allowed to try to contact the child when he is 18.

In a open adoption the biological parents get letters and pictures from the adoptive parents and sometimes they get to see the child too. Unfortunately some parents decide to close the adoption after it has been finalized even though the said it would be open.

What is a custody lawyer?

A custody lawyer would assist someone in a legal dispute over the custody of children. For example after a divorce where children are involved, there would usually be a custody hearing (court) where a custody lawyer would aid both parties in obtaining custody or partial custody of their children. (ownership if I might say)Added: Sounds like a generic-type slang name for an attorney who specializes in the paractice area of Family Law.
