There's a world of difference between the two. Javascript is used for front-end web development while Java can only be used as a back-end language within a web environment. Java doesn't need a web browser to compile and execute like Javascript does. Java is compiled prior to runtime while Javascript is compiled at runtime. The syntax/reserved-words are also different. There's many more differences if you go and do some research on the two languages.

Following are some points which differentiates java & javascript

  1. Java follows strong type checking where as Javascript is very flexible in datatype(loosly typed). Supports types which represents boolean,int,string
    • Ex : Variables in Java is declared as datatype ; --> int num;

    • But in Javascript variable declaration will be as var ; --> var myName;

  2. Javascript support function declarations, but without accessibility specifiers,parameter datatype,return type
  • Javascript : function fcnName(str)

{
........function body..........
}

  • Java : public int functionName(int no)

{
..........function body.........
}

will continue with answer...........
Java is a programming language designed to run in a Java Virtual Machine which is itself a program that allows java programs to run on any computer/device a Java Virtual Machine has been programmed for.

Java script is a scripting language that runs inside of a internet browser to enhance the web experience. Java script is designed to expand the capabilities of a web page so that it behaves more like a program on the computer than just a static page of text and images.

Java is a programming language platform originally developed by Sun Microsystems. It allows a programmer to develop applications that run on any platform (Windows, Mac, Unix) because it does not depend on computer architecture. Instead it is executed by a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) that works much the same way as the Flash Player which executes SWF (Shockwave Flash) files. It promises "Write Once, Run Anywhere" (WORA) programs, because Sun provides Runtimes at no cost. JVMs have also been developed by third parties such as Microsoft's implementation of JVM on Windows. After a legal dispute regarding incompatibility, Microsoft dropped their JVM and no longer supply it with Windows, although Sun has developed a free Runtime for Windows and Internet Explorer. Java is mainly a platform like the .NET Framework which includes standards for hwo programs are written, as well as Runtimes that execute the code on different platforms. JavaScript on the other hand is a standardised scripting language primarily used to make Applets on Web Pages. The JavaScript language is also used by many programs. Adobe Flash has an implementation of the JavaScript standard known as Actionscript, Apple Mac OSX's Dashboard Widgets are also coded in the same standard. The main difference is that Java is a platform, whereas JavaScript is a computer programming/scripting language that does not refer to how the scripts are executed. Java programs are usually compiled into bytecode which runs within a Java Virtual Machine. The program can run as an applet inside a browser, a servlet on the server, a regular desktop application, etc. JavaScript is a scripting language that usually runs inside the web browser. It is not compiled in advance - it is interpreted on the fly by the browser. Languages themselves are also different in many regards. There is no real connection between the two, except for that unfortunate similarity in the name.

Java is a programming language and JavaScript is a scripting language. A scripting language is a lightweight programming language. They are both independent of each other, they just share a similar name and similar syntax.

Java and Javascript are different languages. Java was created by Sun MicroTech to use a strict programming language

Javascript was created by Netscape to create an interactive web platform <Netscape Navigator 2.0>

It isn't.

If you're going to relate the two, you really have to ask how JavaScript is related to Java.

Back in 1995 a gentleman named Brendan Eich created JavaScript at Netscape. The folks at Netscape originally called JavaScript "LiveScript" but the name was quikcly changed to reflect the new addition of Java support in Netscape's browser.

In those days, Java was the hottest new web programming language. And the name change is believed to reflect an attempt by Netscape to cash in on the buzz surrounding Java.

Aside from similar syntax (which JavaScript and Java also share with C, C++, PHP, C#, J#, etc.) there is no real relationship here.

It's just a coincidence of names.

No. HTML is the structure of a site. JavaScript is the interactivity it has with you.

Difference between Java and JavaScript?

Java vs. JavaScript: Understanding the Differences - AchieversIT Java and JavaScript are two programming languages that share a similar name but have distinct characteristics and use cases. Here are the key differences between Java and JavaScript: Purpose and Usage: Java: Java is a versatile, high-level, general-purpose programming language. It is primarily used for building standalone applications, web applications, Android mobile apps, and server-side applications. Java is known for its portability and platform independence. JavaScript: JavaScript, on the other hand, is a lightweight, interpreted scripting language. It is mainly used for web development and allows developers to add interactivity and dynamic behavior to websites. JavaScript runs in web browsers and can manipulate web page elements in real-time. Syntax and Language Features: Java: Java uses a C-style syntax and is a statically typed language, which means variable types must be declared explicitly. It is compiled into bytecode, which runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). JavaScript: JavaScript has a C-style syntax similar to Java, but it is a dynamically typed language, meaning variable types are determined at runtime. It is executed directly by web browsers. Platform: Java: Java is platform-independent, which means code written in Java can run on any platform that has a compatible JVM. This feature makes it suitable for developing cross-platform applications. JavaScript: JavaScript is primarily used for client-side web development. It is executed by web browsers on the client's machine, making it platform-dependent in the context of web applications. Object-Oriented Nature: Java: Java is a fully object-oriented programming (OOP) language, where everything is an object. It supports features like classes, inheritance, polymorphism, and encapsulation. JavaScript: JavaScript is also an OOP language, but it uses a prototype-based inheritance model instead of class-based. Objects can be created and modified dynamically. Usage in Web Development: Java: In web development, Java is used for server-side programming. Technologies like Java Servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP) are commonly used for building dynamic web applications. JavaScript: JavaScript is used for client-side scripting to enhance the functionality and interactivity of web pages. It can also be used on the server-side with platforms like Node.js. Performance: Java: Java is typically considered a high-performance language due to its compiled nature and optimization capabilities. It is suitable for resource-intensive applications. JavaScript: JavaScript performance depends on the browser's JavaScript engine. Modern JavaScript engines have made significant performance improvements, but it may not be as performant as Java for certain tasks. Popularity and Ecosystem: Java: Java has a vast and mature ecosystem with a wide range of libraries, frameworks, and tools. It is commonly used in enterprise-level applications. JavaScript: JavaScript has a massive and active developer community, and it is the backbone of modern web development. It has numerous libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) for building web applications. In summary, while Java and JavaScript share some syntactical similarities, they are fundamentally different languages with distinct use cases. Java is a versatile, general-purpose language used for various application types, while JavaScript is primarily used for web development to make web pages interactive and dynamic. Understanding these differences is crucial when choosing the right language for a particular development task. AchieversIT provides comprehensive training in both Java and JavaScript to equip students with the skills needed for their chosen career paths.

What is differences between JavaScript and livescript?

JavaScript is LiveScript. It was renamed to gain popularity. The JavaScript name was rejected by then Sun Microsystems who owned the Java trademark. Now the official name is ECMAScript, while it is still commonly referred to as JavaScript. In Internet Explorer it is called JScript. Different names, same language.

Do you need java compiler to execute HTML programs written in javascript?

No, Java and JavaScript are nothing to do with each other, JavaScript is a form of EMCAScript, not Java. Every modern browser comes with a JavaScript engine that is used to understand JavaScript. so there is no need for it, no.

Does java script coding mean using it for Java programs only Can you use it for Unity or Game-maker?

Java and JavaScript are different, and quite unrelated, languages. JavaScript is not "for Java"; basically you use JavaScript to create special effects on Web pages (HTML pages).
