Our youngest son was diagnosed with what was then called hyperactive, now called ADD. We were advised to put him on Ridlan. What we chose to do was to experiment with his diet. We found that he had an allergy to many substances that manifested itself in hyperactive behavior. He was allergic to: red dye, yellow dye, packaging preservatives, artificial chocolate, vanilan, plus a number of all natural foods such as raisons and grapes. He stayed off the Ridlin, was manageable, and learned to cope with his Allergies. When he was in college and had to study late he would chew on some red liquorish.
