The different types of pills are as follows:The Combined Pill: These pills contain synthetic forms of hormones estrogen and progestogen, which interfere with a women's regular menstrual cycle, canceling out ovulation, and hence prevent conception. This pill does so by stopping the ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulating) each month. These pills have to be taken on a daily basis and at around same time for maximum effectiveness.
The Mini Pill (also called Progestogen only pill-POP Pill): This pill works by thickening secretions of the crevix (womb) making it difficult for sperm to pass. The mini pill does not contain estrogen (estrogen is responsible for many of the side effects of combined pill). This pill should also be taken at same time daily, even if you are menstruating. Even if you are more than 3 hours late in taking it, you could conceive.
Birth Control Pills (Also called The Pill): They work by making the mucus of vagina too thick for sperm to move in, thereby reducing chances of fertilization. Birth control pills are an effective method of contraception, however these pills have to be taken on a daily basis.
