∙ 12y agoOverhead transmission lines use steel-cored stranded aluminium conductors. The steel supplies the necessary tensile strength, as aluminium is relatively weak. Copper is not generally used as it is significantly more expensive than aluminium.

∙ 12y agothere are basically two types of conductors. ohmic or linear conductors, non ohmic or non linear conductors. ohmic conductors follow ohms law which is V=IR. In an ohmic conductor current changes linearly with voltage or potential difference across its ends. since the voltage- current characteristic graph is linear they are called linear conductors. in non ohmic conductors current still changes with potential difference but not linearly. it may vary exponentially. since the V vs I characteristic graph is non linear they are called non linear conductors.
