Television screen 'sizes' are given as the length of the actual diagonal measurement of the screen e.g. bottom left corner to top right corner of the screen.
The actual height and width of the screen is determined by its 'aspect ratio', i.e. the ratio between its width and its height. (Some televisions are 'widescreen'!)
If a 26" screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9, it will be
* 22.66 inches wide, and * 12.75 incheshigh. Of course, the overall dimensions of the television will be bigger than the screen size, depending on the particular brand and style.

∙ 13y agoThe ideal diagonal size for a wide aspect ratio screen is 30 inches. This will give you a screen width of 26 inches and a height of 14.6 inches. Unfortunately, 30" isn't a standard size although there are a few models with 30" screens.
A 32" model will provide a better height, coming close to filling the 16 inch high aperture but almost an inch will be lost from both the right and left hand edge of the image.
The dimensions given are for the visible screen size and not for the full size of the case. If the aperture must accommodate the whole television including the case, you will need to study the specification of models to confirm the maximum dimensions. It is worth starting with 24" models which should be close to the aperture size. When checking dimensions, make sure you check if the pedestal is included in the height. Some manufacturers include the pedestal, others don't.

∙ 8y agoThe measurement of a tv screen given by manufacturers is the diagonal of the screen. They come in different shapes so it's impossible to work out the actual measurements. One likely possibility is 30 inches high by 40 inches wide. The depth is impossible to predict. If that is crucial to where you want to put it, make sure you take into account the width of any stand.
