Spreadsheets allow rapid calculation of complex equations with multiple values. The are extremely effective and processing large numbers of calculations and presenting results in a form that can be easy to read.

They are not infallible however, A common source of error is caused by erroneous data or formulae. An error in a formula can be difficult to track down as they are not normally visible when viewing a spreadsheet. A formula that is wrong can go un-noticed and cause repeated errors in results that may not be noticed.

They kinda suck.

Spreadsheets are often not very scalable for accessing and manipulating large volumes of data. Such tasks are better suited to relational databases.

Generally attempts to make a spreasheet do something that is was not designed to do make for very inefficient uses.

You can very quickly corrupt spreadsheets by altering very little of the content. And that's extremely hard to trace. If you've got no means of verifying them, or no audit process surrounding them, that's a massive risk. Anybody who has got access to you PC can copy and paste and steal valuable information in seconds.

•If you make an error in your formula, every single calculation done on that spreadsheet will be wrong. •If you do something wrong then you might have to do the spread sheet all over again.

•If you do not know what formula should be used, and you use the wrong one, error messages will show and it can take you a long time to figure out what one should be used.

•If you are not familiar with spreadsheets, it can take a long time to adjust to all the formulas, which is very hard.

•Spreadsheets are restricted to a limited number of records

•May require a large amount of hard-drive space for data storage

•Cannot create reports like databases

These types of questions have no value, because there is no basis of comparision. Please ask another more specific question. But, to answer this question, here are some disadvantages of spreadsheets in excel:

  • They are not good choices for editing movies.
  • They are not good for writing a book.
  • They are not good for catching fish.
  • They are not good for driving a car.
  • etc...

Spreadsheets can not edit video. A spreadsheet would not be the best choice for typing a cover letter for a job application. A spreadsheet can give you bad data if you enter bad numbers or improper formulas.

If you make an error in your formula, every single calculation done on that spreadsheet will be wrong.

The advantages of using a spreadsheet are; your date is organized and is setup in such away. That it is easy for any one to read and understand. Plus you can input the data into into any number of graphs and charts. which in my book looks more professional and my you look like you no what you are talking about. The disadvantages are; the information can unorganized, sloppy, confusing, and not very easy to read. this in all makes it hard to convey your underlined point.

Answer

If you are using it for money calculations or something like timesheets and put in a wrong formula (example - you are a new user) it can be a disaster. So, if you are fairly new to using spreadsheets, check and recheck your formulas when calculating anything to do with money or it can bite you bad. If you make an error in your formula, every single calculation done on that spreadsheet will be wrong. Some formulas in one of my spreadsheets kept disappearing and I hurriedly re-entered the formula and entered it wrong. Everything I did on that spreadsheet was wrong. If you do something wrong then you might have to do the spread sheet all over again.

Answer

The advantages of this is that spread sheets are basically giant powerfull calculators

diadvantages are that if you do one formula wrong the whole spreadsheet will go wrong and you may have to start again one of my friends said:

A spreadsheet is, in it's most basic form, a large calculator. It's purpose is to perform both simple & complex mathematical calculations. Spreadsheets are extremely powerful and are used for 'number crunching' - (calculations on lots of figures) and also allow mathematical formulae to be applied. A good example of spreadsheet use would be to calculate sales profits for the current year which need to be presented in a graph. The range of formulae that can be applied is vast and ranging from the most basic (adding two numbers together) to complex calculations such as applying 'what if' scenarios. The spreadsheet should not be confused with a database (although it has limited database functionality) and should not be used to store mailing lists or other data records - this is a common mistake (see above the reference to somebody using a spreadsheet to create a resume). The sheet itself is comprised of columns (vertical) and rows (horizontal) which are in turn, made up of cells. It can be used for keeping small business accounting records if the company does not generate enough revenue to warrant the cost of accounting software. In short: the main advantage of a spreadsheet is when complex mathematical calculations need to be carried out on large amounts of numerical data. It's a powerful, complex calculator.

If you do one formula wrong the whole spreadsheet will go wrong and you may have to start again. If you make an error in your formula, many of the calculations done on that spreadsheet will be wrong. Some formulas. Often things change when you don't notice. It takes time to learn how to use one. You may need training. When you see a total, you can often assume it is correct but it may not be. This leads to lots of problems being in a spreadsheet that you do not realise, although there are no error messages. Some functions can be difficult to use and you are not always sure how to use them or why they are not working. There are lots of other difficulties, but as you gain experience using one, it becomes easier, you learn to understand how to use it and you make less errors.
