Gambling is money wagering on games, sports, or any potential event. In this regard, financial and Stock Market investments are a similar gamble, but these tend to be supported by some intrinsic value to the investments. Gambling is a "bet" : virtually every bet yields a win for one side and a loss for the other. Simply observing the outcome of gambling, one can see the enormous revenues from lotteries, gaming devices, casinos, and to the governments that tax them. This indicates that gambling has a nearly absolute result that "you lose your money". DISADVANTAGES OF GAMBLING * Personal savings and income are squandered * Money is taken from other economic uses, investment, and charities * Poverty is reinforced because poorer gamblers take greater risks in the hopes of a big win * Addictive gamblers often resort to burglary, theft, larceny, embezzlement, and similar crimes to get cash * As with criminal activity, the chance for greater rewards than ordinary employment is a disincentive to the work ethic
Gambling, can become dangerous when a person becomes addicted to it. Many people that become addicted lose their life's savings, sometimes their homes and other property, or even their jobs or businesses. Some people that own businesses have gambled away so much money that they get in debt and then can't pay back the debt, and some people that get addicted take time off work to gamble.
The biggest disadvantage (in my opinion) is that it tends to be very addictive, and many people spend hours and hours gambling when they could be doing something constructive, and when a person becomes an addict, the addiction can cause gambling to the point of bankruptcy, losing a job, or interference in relationships.
Gambling is to be done for fun, aside from that it can be considered a "bad" thing to do. Weak minded people who cannot control themselves really are the only people who feel as though gambling isn't a "good" thing to do.
