There are no "disadvantages" in learning any language, just advantages, because it allows you to communicate with more people and understand more literature.

If you rather mean "the difficulties": German has a more complex grammar than English but there is logic to it and it is quite regular. Sentence structure is a bit different too. And some vowel sounds are not found in English, e.g. the umlauts.

When studying any foreign language, differences become difficulties, but you can also find a lot of similarities that will help you.
