Shorter Life Span, often as low as 10,000 miles (comaped to around 40,000 for a normal tyre)

Higher repair costs, from $350 to $900 compared to a typical family cars tires which cost $150 to repair on average.

There is a shortage of both replacement tires and trained repair facilities.

On my car, a new set of factory replacements, mounted and balanced w/ disposal fee runs right at $2700.00 and I get about 15-16,000 miles from them before they need replacing. 18 cents per mile, is what is costs to run these tires.

Can you mix runflat tires with regular tires on your Mini Cooper?

Just make sure the new one is the same size and tread style. try to change two at a time, either front or back so there wont be ride issues. I dont blame you for not wanting to buy those expensive tires.

Is a flat tire harder to notice on a 4wd compared to a 2wd car and what other differences is there regarding flat tires?

No, it isn't easier 2 or 4wd. It is easier to notice with a non- run flat vs. a runflat tire. Also it is easier with touring/ high aspect tires like touring car tires vs. sport tires. Sport tires have a stiffer/shorter sidewall that supports more weight without deflecting than a touring tire.

What are the disadvantages in using the cheapest tires?

Is it really important to check the air weekly in my Mini's tires and what is a runflat tire?

Runflat TireThe run flat tire is in case you get a flat tire the car is still able to be driven under 50 miles per hour till you can get it changed. After bringing it to the repair shop, make sure they have reset the button which is found on the gear shift. If it's not reset, then the car won't be able to monitor when a flat is actually happening the next time. I have also heard that run flat tires cannot be repaired and that the whole tire has to be replaced, this is what the dealer says, but other repair places say not the case. Checking the AirInsuring you have good air pressure is always a good thing. It makes sure you know the condition of your tires. Proper inflation can improve your gas mileage, (a very good thing!) as well as reduce wear and tear on the engine and suspension. Run flat tires should not be repaired, it is not safe. Runflat tires are not designed to allow you to continue normal driving. If your run flat tire goes flat, you need to go immediately to a shop, you usually have less than fifty miles before the tire is completely unusable. There is something called duraseal technology automatically seals the tire so it can continue to be used, this is only available for truck tires right now, the technology is not availbable for passenger tires, but maybe one day.

Where is the spare tire on the 2004 mini cooper s?

MINI Cooper S models do not get a spare tire. Ever. The 2002 to 2006 Cooper S's were Super-charged and in order to create room in the engine compartment for the S/C the battery was relocated to the rear of the car. Putting the battery in the back takes up the space for the spare (as in the normally aspirated Cooper) So 2002 to 2006 no spare. 2007 started the turbo charged engine, the battery is in the front, but the Cooper S still does not get a spare. They come standard with Runflat tires. Runflat tires give you the ability to drive 80 miles on a flat tire at up to 50 miles an hour.
