Medications like Adderall contain amphetamines. In some states Desoxyn(methamphetamine) is prescribed. So obviously children could abuse or become dependent on the medication. However, if doses are followed strictly as prescribed this is very unlikely. I personally skip my doses some weekends just to prevent dependence, and it also helps keep tolerance low, so doses don't have to be increased.

It can also cause insomnia, especially if take late in the day. It also suppresses appetite, so your child may not get necessary nutrients. To combat this make sure your child gets lot of healthy foods like veggies, fruit, and lean meat and multi-vitamins may be an option to consider.
