As a QA Manager you are supposed to lot of circus to achieve the trust of your Director/VP and also from your sub-ordinates.

1. You have to punctual in meetings and conferences.

2. You shall be very thorough with QA methodolgies, like QA Institute's V-Model and Oracle AIM.

3. Conduct meetings every day or every alternate days to show that you are in control.

4. Listen to your team and make them feel you are also in the team.

5. If situation of tight schedule arises, be prepared to jump in the arena of testing, next to your team members. This will not only make them great and also make them feel like you support them when it is most needed.

6. Keep good documentation of what each of your team doing and remind them their responsibilities and dead lines.

7. Get to know the system so you can talk in and out when needed in meetings, both with your superiors and also with your sub-ordinates.

8. Make full track of defects and make sure they are getting addressed in time and make sure developers take every defect seriously.

9. Make sure the developers are doing UNIT testing before they say it is ready for testing or re-testing.

10. Be a single point of contact for developers and testers and business analysts.

11. Be serious, but don't micro manage them, give them enough space and freedom and at the same time make sure to make them feel like project schedule is tight.
