seroquel and the other atypical antipsychotic medications do not actually cause diabetes. what they do is cause carbohydrate cravings and large appetites. Thsi causes weight gain and in tern perdisposes the person to type II diabetes. the cravings and appetite increases can be helped by watching what a person eats, exercise and if possible taking th whole dose at night so the largest part of the cravings happens when the person is sleeping. A Psychiatric Nurse

ANSWER

Seroquel does indeed cause the blood sugar to be raised, as proven by medical research in which psychiatrically hospitalized diabetics were given Seroquel and then placed on a strict, supervised diet. The blood sugar readings were higher than they should have been based on the diet and activity and diabetic medications being used.
