Plants naturally produce a substance in response to injury, such as when cut, which also causes wilting of the plant. Aspirin inhibits this substance and so delays the aging process of flowers in the vase..

When used on growing plants, it boosts their immune systems by activating their protective responses. Aspirin contains salicylic acid which plants produce naturally for this purpose.

"I've recommended it to just about everybody. The people who've tried it, that is, people who grow from oats to orchids, have found that plants do remarkably better when given small amounts of aspirin water. I've tried it on my houseplants, and it does really well. Plants are more vigorous and I'm having fewer problems with aphids and the typical things that can build up on houseplants over the winter." In years past when we had live Xmas trees at home, we used to put aspirin in with the water. It helped to keep it alive longer and it stayed much greener.

I did this experiment and the results I concluded was that benadryl doesn't have an effect, the plant doesn't die but it doesn't grow. Calcium makes the plant grow a lot. The vitamin C helps the plant grow but does not drastically iincrease the plant's growth. The aspirin kills the plant, this happens because it makes the soil acidic and that affects plant growth.

We Did an experiment in our BSAA class putting 40mL of water with 1 aspirin tablet and 20 radish seeds and got only one seed to germinate. we noticed that after opening the bag the seeds were germinating in we could smell a sort of acidic smell, like vinegar. we concluded that the aspirin tablet was too acidic to effectively cause a radish seed to germinate
