What are the effects of the upcoming polar shift due before the end of the Mayan calendar?

It is said that polar shifts have happened at least twice in recorded history. There are ancient Egyptian and Chinese writings that talk of the sun setting in the east, and rising in the west. The writings of later times speak of a reversal of that, and the sun now setting in the west. This has happened in human history, and the effects are thought to be totally destructive.
