There are two elements in carbon dioxide. Carbon & Oxygen.

The "di" part is a prefix meaning "two" and the "oxide" represents oxygen. Two oxygen atoms join with a carbon atom to form a carbon dioxide molecule. For this reason we can write carbon dioxide as CO2.
