In the United States and Canada, the 86-89 3SGE engine are the same except for the location of the EGR tube. The 86-87 has an external EGR that hooked to the exhaust manifold. The 88-89 has an internal EGR that routes back into the cylinder head. The GT4, Alltrac, turbo was only on the 88-89 in the United States and Canada.
1987-89 celica engines are the same, besides the alltrac series which come with four wheel drive and a turbocharged engine
