Here is some information from the Mayo Clinics website. Normally, to prevent Diverticulitis you should consume a diet high in fiber. But during an attack you need to let your sytem rest... Home care

If your condition calls for home treatment, expect to remain quiet for a few days. You'll also temporarily need to avoid all whole grains, fruits and vegetables so that your colon can rest and heal. Once your symptoms improve - often in two to four days - you can gradually start increasing the amount of high-fiber foods in your diet. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diverticulitis/DS00070/DSECTION=7

Diverticulitis is caused by inflammation of the diverticulm most commonly in the large bowel. Occasionally multiple diverticulum may be present in the small bowel also which are congenital in origin.

The large bowel diverticulm is associated with increased colonic pressure and as such it is recommended to avoid constipation. The diet therefore will consist of foods rich in fibre, cereals like wheatabix, shredded wheat, bran flakes, plenty of salads fruits and vegetables, and lots of fluids about 1.5 litre per day.

In the acute stage however you will probably be on fluids only with antibiotics to settle the inflammation before you go on the high fibre diet.

Avoid any foods with seeds if you have diverticulitis because the seeds get down into the pockets which are a result of diverticulitis and cause inflammation and pain.
