There were about 15 or 16 distinctly different types of Gladiators in ancient Rome, as far as historians know. Some were common and there is plenty of information about them - some were rare and there is little or sometimes nothing known about them.
In any case, almost every type of weapon known to the Romans was used by one type or the other. Swords were used of every type, from the short gladius of the regular legionary to a heavier version twice as long. Some used specialist weapons, including daggers, spears, clubs, axes and, in the case of the Retiarii, even a net and trident!
