What are the goals and and techniques in counseling and psychotherapy?

Answer:

How Can People Get Along?

Your question is a good question, but one that would require answers that could encompass two books, one about problems and goals and another on about the various psychotherapeutic techniques. This, of course, is not the purpose of Answer.com. A simple question would suffice.

So let me answer the question that I posed above: How can people get along?

People can get along by talking - and talking a lot - exposing problems they have with each other and finding compromises to solve their differences. This is not always easy, for too often one or the other will insist that they are right. It is at this point that usually controversy errupts. The goal of psychotherapy is to help you understand that we do not all look at the world with the same eyes. That's when the psychologist helps you solve problems in making adjustment to other views that makes it possible for you to get along better with others.

There are many different techniques to do this, some lengthy, others quick fixes. The techniques applied depends on the depth of the problem.

This is of course an inadequate answer to your question but this is the best I can do within the scope of this format. See much more about counseling and psychotherapy in the book references # 2, 3,4,5, and 8 on my Bio Page.
