They are different from most of Europe. Gun ownership is allowed and encouraged there. Switzerland is the most heavily-armed nation in the European Union, and they have a large number of armed militias for national defense. These militias keep their guns at home with them. Like the United States, it would be considerably difficult to affect an armed takeover house-by-house in that nation.
Children in Switzerland, especially boys, are encouraged and expected to handle guns in their adolescence and young adulthood, and to handle them safely and professionally.
Also, gun sports, target shooting and other shooting sports are very popular, common and accepted in Switzerland. They are also conducted in an atmosphere of professionalism and safety, and there is very little gun crime there.
This is in sharp contrast to the United States, where there is a lot of gun crime, accidental shootings and other gun problems. Many people (exceptions, of course!) in the United States could learn some things about responsible gun ownership from the Swiss.
