It depends on what kind of bleach you're talking about, there are two different kinds- "chlorine bleach" and "oxygen bleach".
The main ingredients in chlorine bleach are sodium hypochlorite or calcium hypochlorite are used to bleach clothes. They work by giving off oxygen instead of pure chlorine. The actual chlorine stays behind in the mixture as table salt (sodium chloride), or as calcium chloride.
In oxygen bleaches oxygen is also released. One of the more commonly known oxygen bleaches is hydrogen peroxide. Sodium percarbonate is also an example of oxygen bleach. One that is used for laundry is called "Borax".

∙ 14y agoLaundry bleaches are usually either sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) or calcium hypochlorite (CaClO) and, as oxidants, are alkaline, not acidic.
Either is reasonably harmless for external use as long as they aren't mixed with ammonia.

Mixture 1:
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Shampoo
Mixture 2:
- Bowl of warm water
- 3 tablespoons of Honey and Mayonnaise
- a teaspoonful or 2 teaspoons of Olive oil
*TIP: if you want your hair to bleach quicker, add chamomile flower, or add lemon juice to any of the mixtures above*
