The instrumentation varies depending on what the score calls for. Most commonly, there are timpani, a bass drum, a snare drum, triangle and suspended and/or crash cymbals. Less commonly would be the xylophone, vibraphone, marimba and various other percussion instruments.

Basically, anything that has to be "striked" with another object or the hand is considered to be a qualifying percussion instrument. Oddly enough, the piano is officially a member of the percussion family, although it is sometimes associated with the string family.
