What are the internal and external influences of motivation?

Answer:
The Incentive Theory suggests that people are pulled toward behaviors by rewards or incentives.

extrinsic (external) motivation - influence comes from outside source, ex. payed a bonus at your job for doing well

intrinsic (internal) motivation - motivation comes from within, ex. learning how to knit because making a hat gives you a sense of satisfaction

Also, incentives are negative - you are motivated to behave a certain way to avoid an unpleasant outcome.
