motherboard itself is pretty much a wiring harness
main internal components are - CPU, bus, and pci voltage controllers(power supply's)
system bus, CPU socket, ram socket (sockets).
most motherboards also have inboard axillary devices(they are also available as plug ins)
most common one is a usb controller, but could also be a sound card , video card, serial, parallel and other controllers.
