It can be several things. If it is soft and slightly pliable it may just be a harmless fatty tumor that is usually harmless. If the mass is dark in color on the skin it could be more serious like a tumor that is either benign or cancerous. A Vet should check it and be able to tell if it is something that needs to be considered for surgical removal.
