The only way to answer this question is if a unbiased person was able to get info from hospitals around the country about what types of dogs has been reported for the most attacks/bites.

But the real question you should ask is what type of owner raises a dog that attack.

Sadly, people blame the breed of dog for the attack but in every case it is not the dogs fault - but the fault of the OWNERor possibly the person being bitten. Usually, a dog will give you a warning before attacking & if you are unable to read what he is telling you then how can we blame them for that. As far as the owners blame they know when there is a problem with their dog there for they should take measures to prevent this happening. I say it is up to us to as a society to learn how to raise dogs better. If we are not willing to do this then we should not have them.

Pitbulls are very commonly known to harm humans if kept in a unclean, dirty area and has not been fed which also leads to anger... Also its the same with German Sheppards, but if kept in a clean area, fed daily, and loved you'll have no problem at all with pitbulls and German sheppards.

pit bulls, which is why most countries have banned people from owning them.

The CDC concluded (FWIW):"As in recent years, Rottweilers were the most commonly reported breed involved in fatal attacks, followed by pit bull-type dogs... Together, these 2 breeds were involved in approximately 60% of human deaths."- http://www.cdc.gov/HomeandRecreationalSafety/images/dogbreeds-a.pdf

The report is based on data from 1997-98. There were 27 known fatalities in the sample area during that time.

A poorly trained one in the hands of a sad owner or a sick dog that's spent too much time on the streets.

Typically you, and your dog, are more likely to get attacked by toy breeds such as the dachshund and chihuahua, simply because owners of small dogs tend to think their aggressive displays are "cute" and don't bother training them. Otherwise, there is no single breed that is more prone then any other.
