Biblical Apostles The Bible names twelve apostles (messenger, or one that is sent) originally called by Jesus during His ministry: Simon bar Jonah called Peter by Jesus; his brother Andrew; James and John, sons of Zebedee, called Sons of Thunder by Jesus; Philip of Bethsaida; Bartholomew, who was called Nathanael in the gospel of John; Thomas Didymus; James, son of Alphaeus; Matthew the tax collector; Simon the Canaanite also called Simon the Zealot; Thaddeus, also called Lebbaeus or Judas, the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus. Collectively, the gospels frequently refer to them as the Twelve. Later, Matthias was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot. Saul of Tarsus, who became the great Apostle Paul, was called by Jesus after the resurrection. Paul named other people that he called apostles: Barnabas, Silas, Apollos, possibly also Andronicus and Junia (Paul called these two "of note among the apostles" which may mean they were well-known to the apostles, or that they were noted apostles). James the Just, Jesus' brother, is named an apostle in Galatians 1:19. The writer of Hebrews calls Jesus an apostle: Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; However, in Revelation their are but Twelve Apostles of the Lamb. Revelation 21:14 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: Post Biblically The Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches considers all their bishops apostles. The Russian Orthodox Church names others as "equal to the apostles." Some charismatic and other churches believe that apostleship is still given as a gift of the Holy Spirit today. The LDS Church, aka. Mormon, ordains Apostles for its Quorum of 12 Apostles. Disciples of JesusThe term disciple is sometimes used to refer to the twelve apostles, but disciple means student, and many other disciples are mentioned in the Bible, both of Jesus and of others. The Seventy Luke 10:1 After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. The Road to Emmaus Two disciples of Jesus met the risen Christ on the Road to Emmaus. Only one is named, Cleopas. Luke 24:18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? Jesus' mother and brothers were listed with the disciples in Acts. Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. Joseph called Barsabas was a disciple who was considered along with Matthias as a replacement Apostle for Judas. Acts records that there were 120 disciples gathered. Acts 1:15 1And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Acts 1:23-26 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias....and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Luke names Mary Magdalene, Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and says there are "many others.' Luke 8:2-3 And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance. Gospels mention Mary, the mother of James; Salome and Mary the wife of Clopas. Pentecost 3000 additional disciples were added on Pentecost. Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. Ananias said he was sent by Jesus to heal Saul (Paul.) Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. More than 500 disciples at once saw Jesus after the resurrection. 1Corinthians 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. Finally, all those who consider themselves Christian are disciples. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (KJV) or Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (NIV) Matthew 10:2-4
"Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, Whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot who also betrayed Him (Jesus).
-these are the first twelve, the original twelve
According to Matthew and Mark, Jesus' Twelve Apostles were: Peter, Andrew, two different guys named James , John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, Thaddeus, Simon, and Judas Iscariot. Matthias was selected after Judas betrayed Christ. Luke puts in Jude instead of Thaddeus (Jude is the second to last book of the Bible) and John never names them all (but does refer to Nathaniel.)
According to Mark 3:16-19 - "And He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter), and James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, "Sons of Thunder"); and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him."

Christ has many disciples.
Jesus, all the apostles, and some disciples.
The 12 apostles were formed after Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. Jesus hand picked out all of his 12 disciples.
At the last supper Jesus along with his 12 disciples were present.
Anyone who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ is a disciple of Jesus Christ. Apostles, however, had the specific role of establishing church communities, versus the evangelist who preaches. God has given some apostles, some prophets, evangelists, pastors, etc. So in a manner of speaking, the apostles were all disciples, but not all the disciples were apostles.
The Acts of the Apostles describes what they did after Jesus ascended to heaven. They were then Apostles as witnesses to all that Jesus said and did, especially the resurrection. At this time disciples was also used as the name for all the Christian believers since they were all devoted followers of Jesus (no unbelieving nominalism then). Prior to Acts, the four Gospels, although centered on Jesus, record much of what the disciples (as they were then called) did and said.
This is not enumerated in the Bible. While the apostles are named and counted as 12, there are no references to how many disciples there were, although we do know they were not all men - the women were also disciples.
Jesus had a total of twelve disciples or apostles in all. They were Matthew, peter, Andrew, Thomas, James, John, Thadeus , James , Judas Iscariot, , Philip, Bartholomew
No.Eleven of the twelve "Apostles" were from Galilee. Judas was apparently from Judea. 'Disciples', however, came (and COME) from every nation.(Acts 1:8)For starters, on Pentecost, after Jesus died, Peter and the apostles, spoke to people from many nationalities and locations, and 3,000 of them accepted Jesus Christ and were baptized as his disciples. (Acts 2:40-41)
I have heard speculation that John's grave was found. Other than that, I don't know.
They all faithly remained Jesus disciples after his death.
Our Lord Jesus Commissioned His Apostles to preach the Gospel. He Told them to go out & preach to all the Nations & Baptize then in the Name Of the Father, and Of the Son, and Of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus had 12 apostles although many other people followed Jesus around and tried to assist him and are called disciples. All of those that follow our Lord, living and dead, are called disciples. We have no way of knowing this number.
