As long as you waited at least a year to know what you want in life and what you don't want then there is no reason a first relationship couldn't work out. I was married before for three and a half years and divorced and I took a year or more out to get to know 'me'. I enjoyed it and not only had fun, but realized I was always in control of my future and enjoyed learning about my own strengths and weakness'. I dated and then I was introduced to my future husband and we will be married 37 years this August.
Don't dissect your relationship too much, but take it slow and easy.
